Adirondack Trains

Day 1: A scenic adventure awaits us in New York State as we'll travel through the Adirondack Mountains to the Queensbury Hotel in downtown Glen Falls, N Y. The Queensbury is an opulent 1926 hotel with Old World charm that will serve as our hub for sightseeing. After a day of travel, dinner awaits us here the first evening. (D)
Day 2: Following breakfast, we enjoy a two-hour ride on the Upper Hudson River Railroad, a picturesque journey above the riverbanks aboard beautifully restored passenger cars. We also enjoy a scenic cruise across Lake George on the sternwheel boat, the Minnehaha. Dinner will be included this evening at Saratoga Gaming and Raceway in historic Saratoga Springs. (B, D)
Day 3: Following breakfast, our day begins with a two hour ride on the Adirondack Railroad through remote forests, past sparkling rivers, ponds and streams into the magnificent beauty of the 6-million acre Adirondack Wilderness. A one-way rail journey, we disembark at a small town train platform and find our bus waiting. We then travel a short distance to Raquette Lake for the Gilded Age luncheon cruise onboard the WW. Durant. The narration presents to you a period in American history known as the Guilded Age, an era when fabulous country estates were conceived and built for the truly wealthy in the heart of the Adirondacks, so American "aristocrats" like J.P. Morgan and Alfred Vanderbilt might escape the summer heat and live in luxury in the most remote wilderness. Featured afterAdirondack Trains and Lake Cruises our cruise is a tour of Great Camp Sagamore. Built in 1897, Sagamore is a 1526-acre estate with 27 outbuildings. (B, L)
Day 4: Our sightseeing today is to the north, in Lake Placid. Our local guide will discuss the city's famous history, including the 1932 and 198C Winter Olympics, famous residents such as John Brown and Robert Louis Stevenson. You'll also enjoy
a boat cruise on this lake and then board the Adirondack High Peaks Wilderness Train for a short journey, to the village of Saranac Lake for a chance to walk these historic streets and visit the quaint shops. We enjoy a final dinner this evening. (B, D)
Day 5: We return home late afternoon from our Lake George and Adirondack Mountain getaway. (B)
